ROBERT McFERRIN SR
Baritone Robert McFerrin Sr., the first black man to sing under contract with the Metropolitan Opera, has died of a heart attack in St. Louis, aged 85.
McFerrin debuted at the Met in 1955 in their production of Aida before going on to sing the vocals for Sidney Poitier's character in the 1959 film adaptation of Porgy and Bess.
