Disgruntled Festival-goer

January 16 2007

A Sydney Festival patron writes "I was extremely underwhelmed to find that although the press for Eh Joe has been ecstatic, such as the Sunday Times quoted in the program: 'This must be the greatest half hour in theatrical history,' and the Aussie media has been similarly breathless, nobody has mentioned that Charles Dance doesn’t say a word throughout!"

The disgruntled customer goes on: "It's not that it isn't effective but I paid $54 for a preview ticket for 35 minutes of watching his face as he listened to a disembodied voice. Add that to circling the block twice to find a park - really difficult at the Parade - then walking a couple of blocks to get to the theatre (where we had to arrive half an hour early to pick up the tickets anyway). Two drinks for me and the friend I'd persuaded to come and it turned into a long and drawn out effort for a very expensive half hour."

First Love - also in the Beckett season. It's just 55 minutes long but he never shuts up. Much better value for money.
