Kylie Unwell: Gigs Cancelled
A report in the UK newspaper The Independent (January 16) tells of further health problems for Our Kylie. Minogue is currently on tour for the first time since cancelling her "Showgirl" tour after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005.
Given a clean bill of health late last year, Minogue kicked off with sell-out shows in Sydney in November and has continued on around the world. In Manchester yesterday, however, she managed only eight songs before apologising and leaving the stage.
A flu bug has already hit other members of the touring company since its arrival in Britain. Their worst fears were realised as the star appears to have succumbed to the illness too.
According to the Independent, "She was ordered to rest after being diagnosed with a respiratory tract infection, her managers said, adding: 'Doctors have insisted that she not perform in the immediate future'."
Of more concern, however, is the observation - also quoted in the paper - from Dr Emma Pennery, a clinical expert at the charity Breastcancer Care. According to The Independent "Pennery warned that cancer survivors are more susceptible to infection as their bodies recover from the impact of both the disease and its treatment. 'When your body has been through that amount of trauma, your ability to fight off illness can be compromised, so straightforward flu might knock you off your feet.
'Some women who have been through breast cancer bounce back in weeks, but others say that even two years later their energy levels have not returned to normal,' she said."
