MIRIAM'S AWARD

February 15 2007

It was announced in London this week (February 12) that part-time Robertson resident Miriam Margoyles won the British Theatregoers' Choice Award for her performance as Madame Morrible in Wicked. Margolyes is best known to Australian audiences as Gertrude Stein in Gertrude Stein and a Companion and from her appearances with the Sydney Theatre Company as well as her roles in films such as Babe, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Happy Feet.

"I am absolutely thrilled," said the naturally comical Margoyles on accepting her award. "It's especially wonderful because I know the voters are audience members, who love theatre and thought I did a good job, even though I can't sing! My last musical was Fiddler on the Roof, 37 years ago!"

Margoyles returns to Australia later this year with her critically-acclaimed one-woman show Dickens Women. Watch this space for more information on the tour and an interview with the star.
