Playwriting Australia

January 24 2007

PlayWriting Australia, a new organisation born out of amalgamating the old Playworks and the Australian National Playwrights Centre, to promote Australian playwriting and playwrights, has appointed its first artistic director, Christopher Mead. Mead, currently literary manager of the Sydney Theatre Company, will start work at the end of January.

Mead, whose past experience also includes the job of literary manager at Company B Belvoir and director of the International Festival of Young Playwrights, said that PlayWriting Australia would celebrate, advocate, agitate and develop our rich and always growing culture of writing for live performance while improving and maintaining artistic quality, raising awareness, and increasing access to new playwriting?.
