According to the Hollywood Reporter, Alan Rickman (Harry Potter, Love Actually) has signed on to star in the big screen adaptation of Sweeney Todd.
Rickman (who is playing Judge Turpin) joins a cast that already includes Johnny Depp as Sweeney Todd, comedian Sacha Baron Cohen (Ali G, Borat) as Alfonso Pirelli, Helena Bonham Carter as Mrs Lovett and West End star Laura Michelle Kelly (Mary Poppins) as the Begger Woman.
The film is being directed by Tim Burton (Edward Scissorhands, Batman) and features a script by John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator, Last Samurai) based on the stage musical.
