TAKING IT DOWN
Placido Domingo, one of the world’s greatest tenors who found popular fame as one of football’s Three Tenors, will be switching to baritone for a production of Verdi's Simon Boccanegra.
Domingo, who hasn't performed as a baritone since the start of his career in 1959, was quoted in 2005 as saying that it was a dream of his to play this role before he retired, telling the Observer newspaper; "after that, I will probably say Amen."
The production, which opens at Berlin's Staatsoper Unter den Linden in 2009 will then travel to Milan and London.
