When Does Cate Sleep?

May 9 2008

The Sydney Theatre Company is busier than it’s ever been as the doors being opened by (to?) co-artistic director Cate Blanchett continue to amaze.

Blanchett’s first full-length mainstage production as director, Blackbird, a two-hander featuring Paula Arundell and Peter Kowitz (with a late, telling contribution from Danielle Catanzariti) is about to open at the Ruhrfestspiele theatre festival in Recklinghausen, Germany.

Having had a bit of time to download her files from Canberra and 2020, Blanchett is there, in Germany. She’s redirecting her show for the space, breastfeeding Iggy, spruiking the company and being an ambassador for Australian arts and culture in her spare time.

Meanwhile, back home, her production of , starring Robyn Nevin (see review [link]) completes its run at the Wharf before embarking on a provincial tour.

”It’s an exciting time, that’s for sure,” says a Sydney Theatre Company spokesperson.
