Silver – Matthew Whittet

September 25 2009

Something featuring Matthew Whittet is noteworthy anyway, but on this occasion not only has he written it, but it’s also a solo show, so he stars in it too and, even though it’s a one-man show, the already tiny capacity of the Downstairs Belvoir space will be reduced to seating just 40 per show – half the norm!

In other words: get your tickets now or risk severe disappointment.

Titled Silver, it “tells the strange and beautiful tale of a young girl’s search for stillness lost.” The play is produced by Nell Ranney, is directed by Ben Winspear and lit by Nick Schlieper. According to the media release, Silver is “A dark and magical fairy tale, inspired by the work of the Brothers Grimm,”

Matthew Whittet (pictured here by Heidrun Lohr) is a very special artist and this is his debut in the Downstairs theatre. He says, “I have always been intrigued by the Brothers Grimm and their approach to creating fairy tales that evoke other-worldly settings. I was particularly drawn to writing and performing in Silver as a way of experiencing and exploring the process of storytelling.”
