QUEENIE'S MASTER CLASSES

March 27 2011

In an industry where who you know is almost as important as what you know, Queenie van de Zandt is someone any aspiring musical theatre performer should know. That’s because she’s one of our finest performers and is also a brilliant teacher – and generous with it.

In 2010 she ran two blocks of her Advanced Audition Technique for Musical Theatre sessions and the proof of their value is evidenced in former students now working in Jersey Boys, Wicked, Mary Poppins, Rock of Ages and Hairspray!

This year productions of Legally Blonde and Sister Act are on the horizon – no better time to sign up for one of the 2011 courses.

Max Lambert, musical director of Hairspray and Fame and one of the course tutors, believes no aspiring musical theatre performer can afford to miss it. He says: “This brilliant course is constructed so that you can find out exactly where you went right - and wrong. Industry professionals can offer insights and shortcuts that sometimes mean the difference between landing a role and working tables.”

“One of the unique elements of this course is that participants get to hone their audition repertoire and skills under the guidance and instruction of some of Australia’s leading musical theatre directors, musical directors and choreographers,” says Queenie van de Zandt. “But this year we will also be including specialist industry forums with top producers, agents, publicists, and high profile performers”.

The course culminates in a mock audition in front of a panel of the kind of people who cast Australia’s top musicals. “It’s a unique opportunity for students to be seen by and receive feedback from the people who actually have the power to give them a job!” says Queenie.

Previous panels have included: Max Lambert and Darren Yap, choreographers Nathan M. Wright (Rock of Ages, Avenue Q) and John O’Connell (Moulin Rouge, Strictly Ballroom), and director Craig Ilott (Smoke & Mirrors, Hedwig and the Angry Inch).

In essence, Queenie’s course gives emerging performers a unique opportunity to get a foot in the door.

Queenie van de Zandt Presents Advanced Audition Technique for Musical Theatre. Eight Saturdays from April 30–June 18, with one Sunday on May 8. Closing date for applications to audition for a place in the course: Friday April 1. For more information: email: info@queenievandezandt.com
