CIRQUE DU SOLEIL: TOTEM

TOTEM - Cirque du Soleil in the Big Tent, Entertainment Quarter to 4 January 2015. Photography by Matt Beard.

Roll up, roll up, to the amazing and new Cirque Du Soleil show, Totem! Watch as unicyclists unicycle, jugglers juggle and trapeze artists flip!

In the big tent the stage is amazing. Using a projector, they project images onto the stage making it look like under the water, on the beach and even in the sky! Also, they have a part of it that can retract and move around, so performers can come up from under the stage.

The costumes are colourful, sparkly and just plain awesome. The performers can look like anything from frogs to clowns. Using a variety of colours and fabrics, sometimes it’s actually believable that they are frogs, beetles or whatever they are dressed as!

I love the choreography! With flips, twirls and jumps, you would have to be very fit to even attempt it. You can see the talent in each of the performers. They have to do complicated things like ride a unicycle with one foot, spin a cloth on hands and the other foot, a complicated routine with a hoop and flipping on parallel bars.

As well as all the acrobatic acts, there are a few comedy acts. Such as a monkey act, using actual monkey suits, and an act with an Italian macho man.

This performance is not an average circus. It is very high quality and absolutely amazing. I guarantee it will blow you away. They have people that actually sing, not just instrumental music. The overall theme is Native American.

Cirque Du Soleil is on at the Entertainment Quarter, until the 4th of January 2015, so book your tickets now at their website. I recommend this for the whole family. This performance sucked me in and I loved it.
