“Song Contest – the Almost Eurovision Experience” is a glitzy comedic musical tribute to all things we love, hate and love more about Eurovision.
Waaay over the top, interactive, sparkly, a cross between a musical comedy, a concert and a live sporting event – it will be LOUD, fast-paced and ends in a nail-biting finish. Eleven countries compete and just like the real thing, the audience votes determines who wins at every performance.
This is a big show produced and directed by Glynn Nicholas, premiers inside the Melbourne International Comedy Festival from April 1 to May 1 at the Alex Theatre, St Kilda. Showcasing an amazing cast, celebrity cameo appearances and featuring legendary comedian Bev Killick as Bettina Bitjakokov, the Belarusian hostess with the moistest.
As any fans of Eurovision might expect there will be drama backstage and something may not go according to plan again..
Eleven countries compete, performing original love songs, funky pop and possibly one power ballad that is just a bit wrong. The musical scores are catchy and producers suspect will get radio airplay during the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Wind-blown hair, costume malfunctions, weirdness, slick choreography, explosive lighting and more clackers and flags than is wise, this show will excite any die-hard Eurovision fan and lure new ones into this party-like experience.
Award winning international director, producer and comedian Glynn Nicholas suggests that you don’t wear mascara to this spanking brand new, and possibly loudest musical show in the world.

Bev Killick
She is absolutely adored and loved in the comedy world, which is why she has been in the biz for over 15 years. Glynn Nicholas was inspired to have “Killick’ playing the show host, as she has superb comic sensibilities, sings like Tina Turner, lives in St Kilda and can do a bloody good Russian accent. Her gift of the gag and acting talent is recognised on Headliners for The Comedy Channel, Comedy specials including television and guest appearances in “Kath and Kim”, “Jack Irish”, “MDA”, “Pizza” including support act for “Puppetry of the Penis”. She is a legend and continues to run with her own, distinctive and popular stand-up shows which tour here and overseas regularly.
