Mardi Gras 2007
As well as the presence of the divine Rupert (see this section) the 2007 Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras is the familiar line-up of more or less good, bad or indifferent drag, bag, glam and glitter shows - there is a wide range of events on offer.
Best advice if you want to dive in and have a good time is to visit the official website at www.mardigras.org.au/calendar and browse through the events on offer.
Youth is in the picture with Generation Youth Festival (www.glyssn.com); visual arts is rough and ready with the group exhibition Elvis's Teddy Has Left the Building at Mura Clay Gallery, 49 King Street, Newtown, the highlight.
Theatre , dance, cabaret and musicals are huge, as ever, and range from the very obvious major attractions of Priscilla: Queen of the Desert (Lyric Theatre) through every permutation of drag and cabaret to Holding the Man, Tommy Murphy's deeply serious and affecting play about love in the time of AIDS (SBW Stables Theatre). (Check out our interview with Tommy).
One of the more spectacular events has to be the Australian Pink Hockey Championships. This deeply serious, all-day sports event advises would-be competitors to "bring a hockey stick, if you have one" and it's a must for sports fans. (University of NSW Playing Fields, 1408 Anzac Parade, Little Bay, February 24, 9am - 5pm, www.bentstix.com.au for more info).

If you're totally over sequins, take a look at the Forums, Conferences and Workshops sections, otherwise - dust off the old milk crate, make sure the pea in your whistle is working and have a fabulous night of confounding the Rev. Fred - as usual!
